- Chapter 1.2 - Don’t Stay Up Late Reading Novels
Wen Shu read over a hundred chapters in one night, reaching the part where the protagonist was about to head to the next stage of her journey—the Tianqing Sect. The first hundred chapters covered her experiences during the Foundation Establishment stage, including family competitions, training, and dealing with arrogant young masters—typical elements of a cultivation novel.
Yawning, Wen Shu reluctantly put down her phone and drifted into a deep sleep.
“From the first day I stayed up late reading novels, I should have known this day would come,” Wen Shu thought, sitting cross-legged on a cushion, her expression blank and lifeless.
She had been in this world for over a month. From the brink of collapse to reluctant acceptance, her emotions had been on a rollercoaster. But she didn’t show it. Compared to the treacherous and deceitful cultivation world, Wen Shu preferred her previously ordinary life, where she had loving parents, family, friends, and, of course, phones and the internet.
Now, all she had was uncertainty and unease. She couldn’t help but wonder if she was the protagonist of this story. After all, she had become an orphan, fitting the trope of many cultivation novels.
The original owner of her body was named Wen Yuning, a name that sounded familiar but she couldn’t quite place. Over the past month, Wen Shu had pieced together some information about her new identity through careful eavesdropping.
Wen Yuning’s parents were both late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivators, with her father being the younger brother of the current family head. However, they had been stationed at the border, where Wen Yuning was born. The border was near the Endless Mountains, with demonic beasts and frequent beast tides. Every family in the Shao Kingdom was required to send members to guard the border to protect the homeland.
Last year, the beast tide became overwhelming due to a sudden surge in powerful beasts, and reinforcements didn’t arrive in time. Wen Yuning’s parents gave their lives in battle to defend the border city. As the child of fallen heroes, Wen Yuning was sent to live with her uncle, the family head, in the capital.
It had been a little over a month since then.
Wen Shu lay on the bed, tossing and turning, until she finally felt drowsy. She sighed, pulled the blanket over her head, and fell asleep.
Days passed in a haze until one day, a new group of students joined the family’s school. Among them was a girl with delicate features who introduced herself as Wen Xuening.
Wen Shu, who had been diligently taking notes, paused her writing upon hearing the name. A flicker of recognition crossed her mind. If she wasn’t mistaken, Wen Xuening was the protagonist of Endless Path of Immortality, the novel she had been reading before transmigrating.
“No wonder Wen Yuning sounded so familiar,” Wen Shu thought. She had transmigrated into the Endless Path of Immortality world and become a minor character cast aside early in the story.
Knowing what lay ahead, she was determined to change her fate. She wouldn’t let the events of the novel unfold as they did. Instead, she would survive, grow stronger, and return to her original world.
This time, she would firmly align herself with the protagonist. After all, in countless novels, those who genuinely supported the protagonist often reaped unimaginable rewards, skyrocketing in cultivation.
“She’s the chosen one, the pride of heaven,” Wen Shu mused.
